The Great Global Warming Swindle Documentary

I'll start with this topic as it is one I have been discussing recently with others.

This documentary was produced to try and imply that global warming is not a direct result of made made carbon being pumped into the atmosphere. For anyone who hasn't seen it details can be found here.

My interest in this topic was piqued by the relationship they claimed between solar activity and temperature on earth. The graphs they used in the doco were out of date and did not show the last twenty years, in which temperature has risen sharply while solar activity has decreased by a similar amount.

Those who argue against this relationship point to this fact that solar activity has dropped recently but they do not see the big picture, which is that their does appear to be relationship between the temperature and solar activity. The temperature simply seems to lag behind the solar activity level by some years, which would make sense.

When you turn off your heater it doesn't get cold straight away, and if you have nice comfy clothes on, like a layer of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases then your temperature could continue to rise until the outside temperature has dropped for long enough.

The same applies for for when you turn your heater on or up you don't instantly get hotter it takes some time for the heat to build up.

If we take into account the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere recently, then we could expect temperature rises, but only if solar activity is sufficient to keep that heat trapped. If solar activity drops to a level where heat starts to escape more then we may actually see cooling in our climate.

Current graphs of solar activity show it has been increasing since the 1900's. If you then look at the graphs on global temperature it shows that temperature also has been increasing since the 1900's.

If you now look at the period between 1600 and 1700 (no that flat line on the solar activity graph is suppose to be there to indicate little activity sighted) you will notice that a period of very low solar activity coincides with what is termed the Little Ice Age.

If the relationship between these two is what is driving our current temperature rise then I fear that no amount of CO2 pumped into the atmosphere going to make a huge difference to our temperature. Interesting too is that the level of CO2 in our atmosphere also seems to follow the same pattern as temperature however as the graph shows it is CO2 that lags behind temperature, which indicates that it is actually the temperature that determines the level of CO2 in the atmosphere more than the other way around.

So if we look at the big picture, solar activity leads to temperature changes, which lead to changes in CO2 levels. Throw into that the fact that volcanic emissions also have an effect on our climate by releasing greenhouse gases and dust particles into the air, and you can start to see the climate becomes very difficult to predict in the long term.

What does all this mean for our future climate? Will it get hotter as Climate Change analysts suggest? Or will it in fact get colder again, as it has done in earths past.

The answer is ......... no one knows, as we have no way of predicting solar activity at this stage or volcanic activity and these appears to be the main influences on global temperature rather than CO2.

My final note on this will be that no matter what our future climate holds in store for us, the whole Greenhouse Gas/Climate Change debate is bringing about changes which can only be beneficial to the planet and us in the long term, by reducing pollution and changing the way we look at our world.
Welcome

I have started this blog as a way of expressing my opinions on world events.

Topics I will likely cover include;
-Global Warming Theories
-Overpopulation
-The War on Terror
-Religion
-Environmentalism
-Main Stream Media

My views tend to be different than most people, who seem to mostly get their opinions feed to them via main stream media. I tend to review the information, do some research and then come to my own conclusions.

I hope anyone reading this can get something out of it, even if it is just to laugh at my ideas. I would hope that at least it promotes thought and discussion on topics which affect us all, but are sometimes considered taboo to discuss in our society unless you tow the line and agree with the majority.
